I love Prada.
In early 2020; Prada released two new renditions of the vintage nylon mini bag, the Re-Edition 2000 mini-bag and the Re-Edition 2005 mini-bag. They come in saffiano leather and nylon.
These re-editions did not really speak to me until I saw the crystal version. This satin mini-bag with artificial crystals brought a breath of fresh air very much needed in these pandemic times through original details and materials. This bag was It Bag of 2020 and 2021. It is still a piece of art.
I would describe this bag as light, functional and beautiful.
Start with the fabric
Nylon is mainly use as a fabric for clothes. You don’t typically see it use for a purse. In all honesty, it is a cheap fabric. However, this is where Prada added their creative expertise to this material. Remember the adage “Use What You Have”, this bag is a testament of that. Prada, a clothing company, reached for a satin-feel fabric to create something else.
When Muccia Prada took over the family company in the mid-Seventies and became the Creative Director, she introduced nylon to the world of luxury bags. Prior to her, Nylon was not used for purses. The handbag industry was solely focused on leather materials. The processes and tools to create a nylon purse were nonexistent. It took Prada a lot of manpower to refine this material. Prada’s imagination rethought the use of nylon and made it work in a purse. The crystal Re-Edition 2000 mini-bag elevates the re-edition collection from the traditional leather and nylon we are accustomed to. Well done, Prada!
Make it Contemporary
The added crystals change the functionally of the Re-Edition 2000 mini-bag from a day bag to an evening bag. I get more use out to it as a consumer as I can wear it with a pair of denim in my shopping runs and get into a gown for a night at the museum without the need to change my bag. Crystal also makes the bag very contemporary. Ladies love the bling and this bag gives you just that.
How I got this purse?
